Notes from the grove

The first harvest

Treemeantus opens with two jars. Not a catalogue. A beginning.

We could have waited until the pantry was full. We did not. Growth that is honest starts smaller than the plan.

The house opens with cashews and golden raisins. One is a seed that hung under a fruit. One is a grape that agreed to wait in the sun.

Kheer with gold and cream

A slow Indian rice pudding, finished with cashews and golden raisins.

Kheer is not a curry. It is milk, rice, and time — the Indian dessert you fold the harvest into.

Warm a teaspoon of ghee. Toast cashews until they take a little colour. Let raisins swell in the same pan. Simmer milk with rice, then add sugar, cardamom, and saffron. Fold the harvest through.

What a cashew teaches

The seed hangs under the fruit. The tree does not explain itself.

This is why Treemeantus is named for trees and not for snacks. A snack is an outcome. A tree is a method.
